Says Nanak, You, Lord, see, establish and disestablish. ||4||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
You Yourself act, and You make everyone act; only You know.
Nanak says: You see it all. You set things up, and You take them down.
The same One builds up and lets go, and stays steady through both.
The One does everything, moves everyone, and watches all things begin and end.
Karay karaa-ay: the One acts and causes others to act. Thaap uthaap: setting up and taking down. Nanak closes with a steady witness who sees both. Think of a gardener who plants in spring and clears the beds in autumn, and loves the garden through both.
A Question to Sit With
Can something be ending and beginning at the same time? Where have you seen that?
