Such a person overpowers the five thieves. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The one who meets the True Guru stays awake and aware.
That person masters the five thieves inside: wanting, anger, greed, clinging, and pride.
Meeting a true guide wakes you up — and waking gives you power over your inner troublemakers.
Meeting the True Guru wakes you up, and the five thieves inside lose their hold.
So jaagai jis satgur milai: whoever meets the True Guru stays awake. Panch doot oh vasgat karai: that person brings the five thieves under control — kaam (wanting), krodh (anger), lobh (greed), moh (clinging) and ahankaar (pride). They are called thieves because they steal your peace without being noticed.
A Question to Sit With
Which of the five — grabbing, anger, greed, clinging, pride — sneaks up on you most?
