Awake to the One

ਸੋ ਜਾਗੈ ਜੋ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
so jaagai jo ayko jaanai.
One who knows the One Lord remains awake and aware.
ਪਰਕਿਰਤਿ ਛੋਡੈ ਤਤੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥੪॥
parkirat chhodai tat pachhaanai. ||4||
He abandons the service of others, and realizes the essence of reality. ||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The one who knows the One stays awake and aware.

They let go of serving anything other than the One, and they recognize what is true at the heart of everything.

Being awake means recognizing the one presence behind all the scattered things.
The deeper layer

Know the One, and you stay awake.

So jaagai jo ayko jaanai: awake is the one who knows the One. Parkirat chhodai tat pachhaanai: they let go of serving anything else and recognize tat, what is true at the centre of things. This is about where your heart bows, never about leaving people behind.

A Question to Sit With

What's one scattered chase you could let go of to focus on what matters most?
