ਜਮੈ ਕਾਲੈ ਤੇ ਛੂਟੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੫॥
jamai kaalai tay chhootai so-ay. ||5||
is released from birth and death. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

From any of the four castes, whoever stays awake and aware

is set free from birth and death.

Waking up is open to anyone, from any group — no one is shut out.
The deeper layer

Anyone, from any caste, who wakes up is set free from the round of birth and death.

Chahu varnaa vich jaagai ko-ay: from all four castes, whoever wakes. Jamai kaalai tay chhootai so-ay: that person is freed from birth and death, the circle of endings and beginnings. The door is open to every person, whatever group they were born into.

A Question to Sit With

Why does it matter that waking up is open to everyone?
