Keep me near You, O Merciful Lord God - that is heaven for me. ||4||7||15||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the great Giver; I am always a beggar at Your door.

If I were to turn You away, I would be a sorry wrongdoer.

Kabir says: I, Your servant, have entered Your shelter.

Keep me near You, O Merciful One; that is heaven for me.

Being close to what you love is heaven enough.
The deeper layer

Being near the Merciful One is heaven.

The tender resolution. Tum daatay ham sadaa bhikhaaree: You give, I receive with open hands, the honest empty-handedness of the seeker. Day-o jabaab ho-ay bajgaaree: to turn You away would make me a wrongdoer. Rehmaan, the Merciful, is one of the beautiful Muslim names for the One. Bhisat najeek raakh: keep me near; that nearness is heaven. Paradise here is closeness itself.

A Question to Sit With

Who or what feels like home when you are near it?
