In plain words

Fifty-six million clouds are the One's.

In every town and village, the One's fame spreads without end.

Wild, fierce figures with loose, flying hair roam about.

The Lord of the World plays in countless ways.

All the world's wild variety is one Source playing in countless ways.
The deeper layer

The One plays through the whole world in endless ways.

Chhapan kot means fifty-six million, and that many clouds belong to the One. "nagree nagree khi-at apaar" — in every town, the One's fame has no end.

"lat chhootee vartai bikraal" pictures wild figures with loose, flying hair roaming about. It shows that even the wildest, fiercest things in the world move within the One's play. Think of a thunderstorm: loud and untamed, yet still part of nature.

"kot kalaa khaylai gopaal" — the One plays in countless ways. Gopaal is a loving name for the One, the Keeper of the world. All of it is the One's play, and it fills us with wonder.

A Question to Sit With

What is something wild in nature that fills you with wonder?
