Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

O my tongue, if you do not chant the Naam of the Lord of the World, I would rather have no tongue at all.

Your voice was made for wonderful things, and the most wonderful is love.
The deeper layer

A tongue is meant for speaking the Naam of the One.

Namdev opens with a fierce vow to his own tongue: if it does not chant the Naam, he would rather not have it. The strong words show how much the Naam matters to him. Of everything a tongue can do, nothing is worthier.

A Question to Sit With

What is something kind or true you can say out loud today?
