My body and mind are united with my Beloved Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Go ahead, people: say bad things about me, say bad things about me, say bad things about me.

My body and mind are joined with my Beloved, the One.

When your heart is anchored in the One, words cannot knock you over.
The deeper layer

When your body and mind are joined with the One you love, other people's blame cannot shake you.

This is the rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole shabad, the part everything else leans on.

Bhalay ninda-o: go ahead and say bad things about me. Namdev says it three times. Nindaa means slander, talking someone down.

Why doesn't he mind? Tan man raam pi-aaray jog: his body and mind are joined with the beloved One. Jog means joined.

Think of a kid who knows their family loves them no matter what. A mean word at recess can't reach the deep place where they feel safe.

That is the peace Namdev has found. Praise and blame can't shake it.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you stay steady when someone says something unkind?
