Verse 5 of 5

Praise Or Blame, I Have Found The One

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੈ ਨਰੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
ustat nindaa karai nar ko-ee.
Anyone can praise or slander me.
ਨਾਮੇ ਸ੍ਰੀਰੰਗੁ ਭੇਟਲ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੪॥
naamay sareerang bhaytal so-ee. ||4||4||
Naam Dayv has met the Lord. ||4||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Anyone at all may praise me or put me down.

Namdev says: I have met the beautiful One.

Once you have met the One, other people's words weigh less.
The deeper layer

Once you have met the One, praise and blame weigh very little.

Namdev closes the shabad. Ustat nindaa karai nar ko-ee: let anyone praise me or put me down.

Naamay sareerang bhaytal so-ee: Namdev has met the beautiful One. Sareerang means the beloved, beautiful One.

Think of someone who has just found a treasure. They hardly notice if others make fun of their old backpack.

What you have found matters more than what others say.

A Question to Sit With

What matters to you more than being praised?
