Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Namdev has fallen in love with the One.
Easily and naturally, he has let go of clinging to the world.
The right kind of love makes you freer, not more trapped.
Love for the One sets you free from clinging.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. "naamay pareet naaraa-in laagee" — Namdev has fallen in love with the One. Because of this love, he became bairaagee, free of clinging to the world. It happened sahj subhaa-ay, naturally and easily.
Think of a child who finds a new best friend. The old toys they fought over stop mattering so much. Love like this does not tie us up. It gently loosens our grip on smaller things.
A Question to Sit With
Has loving something ever helped you let go of something else?
