Revealed in the Heart, Lifting the Family

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਖੈ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
hirdai naam lakhai jan saachaa gurmukh man vasaa-ee.
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is revealed in the heart of the True Lord's humble servant. It dwells in the mind of the Gurmukh.
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੇ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੇ ਜਿਨੀ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੨॥
aap taray saglay kul taaray jinee raam naam liv laa-ee. ||2||
Those who are lovingly focused on the Lord's Name save themselves; they save all their ancestors as well. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The true servant sees the Naam in their own heart. The one who faces the Guru keeps it living in the mind.

Those who lovingly fix their attention on the Naam of the One cross over themselves, and they carry their whole family line across too.

When the Name shines in one heart, it lifts a whole family.
The deeper layer

When the Naam lives in one heart, it lifts that person and their whole family line.

Hirdai naam lakhai jan saachaa: the true servant sees the Naam inside their own heart. Gurmukh man vasaa-ee: the one facing the Guru keeps it living in the mind. Aap taray saglay kul taaray: they cross over, and they carry their whole kul, their family line, with them. Liv is loving attention that stays fixed, like a compass needle that always finds north.

A Question to Sit With

How does one person’s steadiness help everyone around them?
