bhairo mehlaa 3.
Bhairao, Third Mehl:
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇ ਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਵੀਚਾਰ ॥
mansaa maneh samaa-ay lai gur sabdee veechaar.
The desires of the mind are absorbed in the mind, contemplating the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥੧॥
gur pooray tay sojhee pavai fir marai na vaaro vaar. ||1||
Understanding is obtained from the Perfect Guru, and then the mortal does not die over and over again. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When I think deeply on the Guru's Word, the mind's wishes settle back into the mind.

Understanding comes from the Perfect Guru, and then I do not die over and over again.

When restless wanting settles, you stop being tossed around.
The deeper layer

Think on the Guru's Word, and the mind's wanting settles back into stillness.

Mansaa maneh samaa-ay lai: the mind's desires fold back into the mind, the way ripples sink back into a pond. Gur sabdee veechaar: by reflecting on the Guru's Word. Gur pooray tay sojhee pavai: from the Perfect Guru comes sojhee, understanding. Fir marai na vaaro vaar: then there is no more dying over and over, no more going round the circle of birth and death.

A Question to Sit With

What helps your mind settle when it is spinning with wants?
