Those people, to whose hearts the Lord's Name seems sweet, are carried across the terrifying world-ocean by the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, stay always in the shelter of the True Guru.

Those whose hearts find the Naam of the One sweet are carried across the frightening ocean of the world by the Guru's Word.

Stay in the shelter, and the Name grows sweet enough to carry you across.
The deeper layer

Stay in the Guru's shelter, and the Naam turns sweet and carries you across.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Satgur kee sarnaa: the shelter of the True Guru, a safe place to stay. Har naam meethaa: the Naam tastes sweet. Bhavjal: the world pictured as a wide, rough ocean. Gur sabday bhavjal tarnaa: the Guru's Word is the boat that carries you across.

A Question to Sit With

Where is a shelter or safe place you can always return to?
