In plain words

In age after age, the One has kept the honor of those who love the One.

Prahlaad, the son of a demon king, knew nothing of the Gayatri morning prayer, and nothing of the water-offerings made for ancestors. Yet through the Word, the Shabad, he was joined with the One.

Through the living Word, even a child who knows no ceremonies is joined with the One.
The deeper layer

In every age the One protects those who love the One, as it protected the boy Prahlaad.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Prahlaad didn't know the Gayatri, a Hindu morning prayer. He didn't know tarpan, the offering of water to honor ancestors. Yet sabday mayl milaa-i-aa: through the Shabad, the living Word, he was joined to the One.

Being close to the One rests on love, and a child who knows no ceremonies can be held close too. Think of a little kid who can't read a birthday card yet, but gives the biggest hug. The love is what counts. A child's love was enough.
