Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
O my mind, sing and remember the One, the Naam of the One who is everywhere.
The One, the Giver of peace, pours out grace, and the one who follows the Guru crosses the frightening ocean of the world through the One's Naam.
My mind, sing the Naam, and you will be carried across.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. "mayray man har bhaj naam naraa-in" — O my mind, sing the Name of Naraa-in, a name for the One who is everywhere. The One is sukh-daata, the Giver of peace.
The bhavjal is the world-ocean. It can look frightening and far too wide. The Gurmukh, the one who follows the Guru, crosses it through the Naam, carried by grace. Think of a long swim across a lake. With a kind lifeguard beside you, you make it.
What once felt impossible that you later crossed?
