In plain words

Keep me safe, keep me safe; pour Your mercy over me.

I have come to Your shelter, to Your court.

Asking for help means knowing where home is.
The deeper layer

When you need shelter, you can turn to the One and ask to be kept safe.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Raakho raakho kirpaa dhaar means "keep me, keep me, pour down Your mercy." Kirpaa is mercy, kindness.

Tayree saran tayrai darvaar means "I have come to Your shelter, to Your court." Saran is shelter, a safe place. Darvaar is a court, the doorway of a ruler.

Think of being caught in a storm. You do not build a shelter out of nothing in the rain. You run to the house with the lights on and the door open. The safest place is the shelter you turn toward.

A Question to Sit With

Who is the person or place you run to when you need shelter?
