Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
O One, You alone are my Master, and everyone belongs to You.
As it pleases You, You settle every matter.
There is no second at all; the One alone fills everything.
Nanak says: please keep my honor safe; I have come to Your shelter.
Belonging to something larger means you are never handed off to chance.
Everyone belongs to the One, and there is no second, so you can ask the One to keep you safe.
Paij raakho, "protect my honor," is the humble request that ends many of Guru Arjan's shabads. Belonging to one trustworthy keeper means you are never handed off to random chance. Dutee-aa naasat, "there is no second," is pure Ik Onkar.
