Verse 2 of 5

The One Who Is Already Well

ਜੋ ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਸੋ ਰੋਗੀ ॥
jo jo deesai so so rogee.
Whoever I see is diseased.
ਰੋਗ ਰਹਿਤ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਜੋਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rog rahit mayraa satgur jogee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Only my True Guru, the True Yogi, is free of disease. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Everyone I see is sick.

Only my True Guru, the true yogi, is free of sickness.

To get well, it helps to sit near someone who already is.
The deeper layer

Everyone carries this sickness, and the True Guru is the one who is well.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Jo jo deesai so so rogee: whoever I see is sick. Rog rahit mayraa satgur jogee: my True Guru, the jogee, is free of it. The jogee here is one joined with the One, and so whole and well. To get better, sit near someone who already is.

A Question to Sit With

Who do you know who seems calm and whole in a way you admire?
