In the disease of the three qualities, corruption is multiplied. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Through the sickness of taste, the fish is caught on the hook.

Through the sickness of smell, the bumblebee is destroyed.

The whole world is caught in the sickness of clinging.

In the sickness of the three qualities that stir the mind, wrong deeds multiply.

A single craving, left unchecked, can quietly run the whole show.
The deeper layer

One craving can catch a creature, and clinging catches the whole world.

Jihvaa rog meen garsi-aano: through taste, the fish is caught. Baasan rog bhavar binsaano: through love of scent, the bumblebee lingers in the lotus until the petals close around it. Hayt rog is the sickness of clinging. The taribadh are the three qualities (gunas) that keep the mind turning, and in them wrong deeds multiply.

A Question to Sit With

What craving is hardest for you to say no to?
