Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have found peace, and so everyone around me is at peace too.

The Perfect Guru has brought me together with my Father, the One.

Your own peace quietly becomes peace for the people around you.
The deeper layer

When you find peace, everyone around you feels it.

This is the rahaa-o, the pause line, the center of the shabad.

Ham sukh paa-i-aa taa sabheh suhaylay — I found peace, and so all are at peace. Suhaylay means content and at ease.

Think of a classroom before a big test. Everyone is nervous. Then one friend takes a slow breath and smiles. Soon the kids around them relax too. Peace spreads.

Where did the peace come from? Gur poorai pitaa sang maylay — the Perfect Guru brought me together with my Father, the One.

A Question to Sit With

Whose calm has ever helped you feel calmer?
