Sikhism·Raag Bhairao·Shabad 58
Verse 3 of 5

Riches You Cannot Count

ਮੰਦਰ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚੇ ॥
mandar mayray sabh tay oochay.
My mansions are the highest of all.
ਦੇਸ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪੂਛੇ ॥
days mayray bay-ant apoochhay.
My countries are infinite and uncountable.
ਰਾਜੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ॥
raaj hamaaraa sad hee nihchal.
My kingdom is eternally stable.
ਮਾਲੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ਅਖੂਟੁ ਅਬੇਚਲੁ ॥੨॥
maal hamaaraa akhoot abaychal. ||2||
My wealth is inexhaustible and permanent. ||2||

In plain words

My mansions are the highest of all. My lands go on forever, too many to count.

My kingdom stands steady for all time. My wealth never runs out and never goes away.

Belonging to something vast makes its vastness yours.
The deeper layer

Belonging to the One makes you rich in a way that never runs out.

The verse sounds like a king speaking. My mansions are the highest. My lands have no end. My kingdom stands forever. My wealth can never be used up. Akhoot means never running out.

These riches live inside. They are what you receive when you belong to the One. The One is endless, so what you share in is endless too.

Think of the sky. Nobody owns it, yet everyone can look up and enjoy all of it. That is why this wealth stays humble. None of it is owned. It is shared.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you feel lucky to be part of, even though you do not own it?
