Verse 4 of 5

Fear of the End Loses Its Grip

naam lait jam nayrh na aavai.
Repeating the Naam, the Messenger of Death does not draw near.
naam lait dargeh sukh paavai.
Repeating the Naam, one finds peace in the Court of the Lord.
naam lait parabh kahai saabaas.
Repeating the Naam, God gives His Approval.
naam hamaaree saachee raas. ||3||
The Naam is my true wealth. ||3||

In plain words

Remembering the Naam, death keeps its distance. Remembering the Naam, I find peace in the court of the One.

Remembering the Naam, the One says to me, "Well done!" The Naam is my true wealth.

When you feel held, even big fears lose their shadow.
The deeper layer

Remembering the Naam, death keeps its distance, and the One welcomes you with peace.

Jam nayrh na aavai: Jam, death's messenger, does not come near. Death is still part of every life; the fear of it loses its hold. Dargah sukh paavai: you find peace in the One's court. Prabh kahai saabaas: the One says, "Well done!" Saabaas is what a proud grown-up says when you have done well.

Naam hamaaree saachee raas: the Naam is my true wealth, savings that no one can take.

A Question to Sit With

What helps a big fear feel smaller?
