In plain words

The Guru has taught me this, the heart of it all: the praise of the One and the Naam hold up my mind.

Nanak says: I am saved by the Naam, which makes up for every wrong. Other deeds only keep people pleased.

Do what is good for its own sake, and let being seen go.
The deeper layer

The praise of the One and the Naam hold the mind up; deeds done for show only please people.

Har keerat man naam adhaar: singing the One's praise, keerat, and the Naam are the mind's adhaar, its support, like the posts that hold up a porch. Naam punahchaar: the Naam as the way to make up for wrongs.

Avar karam lokah pateeaar: other actions just keep people pleased. Any practice, in any tradition, done only to be seen, leaves the mind with nothing to lean on.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do just because it is right?
