In plain words

I was like a bride left behind and unwanted, yet the One adorned me Himself. The One gave me beauty and love, and through the Naam made me lovely.

All my pain and every sorrow are wiped away. The Guru has become my mother and my father.

You can go from feeling unchosen to knowing you were always wanted.
The deeper layer

Feeling left out can turn into being chosen with love.

Guru Arjan uses the picture of a bride who felt unwanted. Mohi duhaagan aap seegaaree means "I was the left-behind one, yet the One dressed me up." Duhaagan is a bride who feels passed over. Seegaaree means adorned, made beautiful.

Think of the moment on the playground when you are sure no one will pick you. Then the captain calls your name first. You feel seen, just as you are.

Roop rang day naam savaaree means "giving beauty and love, the One made me lovely with the Naam." All the old pain and sorrow lifted. Then gur ho-ay mayray maa-ee baap: "the Guru became my mother and father." Maa-ee baap names the Guru's complete care, like a parent who simply claims you as their own.

A Question to Sit With

Who has made you feel wanted, exactly as you are?
