The One Thing That Never Wobbles

ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਧਨੀ ॥
naam hamaarai nihchal Dhanee.
The Naam is my unmoving, unchanging Lord and Master.
ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਬਨੀ ॥
naam kee mahimaa sabh meh banee.
The glory of the Naam spreads over the whole world.
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਾਹੁ ॥
naam hamaarai pooraa saahu.
The Naam is my perfect master of wealth.
ਨਾਮੁ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਬੇਪਰਵਾਹੁ ॥੨॥
naam hamaarai bayparvaahu. ||2||
The Naam is my independence. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Naam is my Master, steady and unchanging.

The glory of the Naam spreads across the whole world.

The Naam is my perfect banker, holding all the wealth there is.

The Naam makes me free, needing nothing from anyone.

One unshakable center lets you stand free.
The deeper layer

The Naam is a steady Master, full wealth, and freedom.

Nihchal Dhanee means the Master who never moves or changes. The Naam's glory, mahimaa, is found everywhere in the world. The Naam is pooraa saahu, the one with all the wealth.

And the Naam makes the Guru bayparvaahu, carefree and free. Think of a kite with a strong string held by someone you trust. Because the string is steady, the kite can fly high without worry. A center that can't be shaken makes you free. Wealth here is that steady center, more than a pile of things.

A Question to Sit With

What is the steadiest thing in your life right now?
