Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Naam is my food and my love.

The Naam is what my mind longs for.

By the kindness of the saints, I never forget the Naam.

As I repeat the Naam, the music no one plays sounds inside me, full and whole.

What nourishes you can also be what you love most.
The deeper layer

The Naam is food and love at once, and it fills you with a music no one plays.

Bhojan bhaa-o means food and love in one breath. The Naam keeps the Guru going, the way food does. And it makes him glad, the way love does. Think of your favorite home-cooked meal. It fills your stomach, and it also tells you someone cares about you.

The Naam is man kaa su-aa-o, what the mind is reaching for. By the kindness of sants, good and holy people, the Guru keeps it close. Then anhad naad plays. That means the music nobody strikes, a quiet music inside that plays by itself. Bhairao is a raag, a musical mood, so an inner song fits it well.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that feeds both your body and your heart?
