Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
By the One's kindness, I have found the Naam, the nine treasures.
By the Guru's kindness, my heart is tuned to the Naam.
Nanak says: they alone are rich and great who carry the treasure of the Naam.
The people who carry the Naam are the rich ones.
Na-o niDh means the nine treasures. In old Indian stories it means all the wealth there is. The Guru says the One's kindness gave him those nine treasures, and they are the Naam. The Guru's kindness tuned him to it, like tuning a guitar string until it plays the right note.
Then comes a surprise. Who are parDhaan, the greatest? Not the most powerful or the most famous. It is those who carry naam niDhaan, the treasure of the Naam. Think of a kid who shares their lunch with someone who forgot theirs. They may not have the newest shoes, but they are rich on the inside. That is the Guru's kind of wealth.
Who is the "richest" person you know in ways that have nothing to do with money?
