He Mercifully unites us with Himself. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

In the One's shelter, there is peace that lasts forever.

In kindness, the One brings us close.

Peace comes from resting in something larger than yourself.
The deeper layer

The One's shelter holds lasting peace, and the One's kindness draws you close.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line. It is the center of the shabad. Sarnaa-ee means shelter, a safe place to run to. In it, sadaa sukh, peace that lasts.

How do we get close? Kar kirpaa: by the One's kindness, the One's grace. We don't earn it like points in a game. It is already there. Think of sunlight on a cold morning. You don't have to make it. You just step outside the door and it is waiting to warm you. This is Gurprasad, the Guru's gift of grace.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, inside or outside, when you need to feel safe?
