Our Lord and Master is the Creator, the Cause of causes; no one is turned away from His Door empty-handed. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Serving the One, our Sovereign King, always bears fruit.

Our Master is the Creator, the One who makes everything happen; no one goes away from that door empty-handed.

No sincere turning toward the One is ever wasted.
The deeper layer

Serving the One bears fruit, and no one leaves the One's door empty-handed.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Safal sayvaa gopaal raa-ay: service to the Sovereign King is fruitful. Gopaal is an old name for the One, the Sustainer of the World. Karan karaavanhaar is the Cause of causes, the One who does all things and makes all things happen. Taa tay birthaa ko-ay na jaa-ay: from that door, no one goes away empty.

Think of a grandmother's kitchen on a visit. Whoever comes through the door gets fed.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you have asked for wholeheartedly and received?
