Honor For The Overlooked

ਨਿਮਾਣੇ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਤੋ ਮਾਨੁ ॥
nimaanay ka-o parabh dayto maan.
God bestows honor on the dishonored.
ਮੂੜ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਹੋਇ ਚਤੁਰ ਸੁਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
moorh mugaDh ho-ay chatur sugi-aan.
He makes the foolish and ignorant become clever and wise.
ਸਗਲ ਭਇਆਨ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਨਸੈ ॥
sagal bha-i-aan kaa bha-o nasai.
The fear of all fear disappears.
ਜਨ ਅਪਨੇ ਕੈ ਹਰਿ ਮਨਿ ਬਸੈ ॥੩॥
jan apnay kai har man basai. ||3||
The Lord dwells within the mind of His humble servant. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One gives honor to those who have none.

The One makes the foolish and the unknowing clever and wise.

The fear of every fear runs away.

The One lives in the mind of the One's humble servant.

The overlooked are exactly who the One lifts.
The deeper layer

The One gives honor to the overlooked, wisdom to the unknowing, and freedom from every fear.

Nimaanay ka-o prabh dayto maan: the One gives honor to those without honor. Moorh mugadh are the foolish and unknowing, people the world may laugh at. They become chatur sugi-aan, clever and wise.

Sagal bha-i-aan kaa bha-o nasai: the fear behind all fears runs off. Why? Jan apnay kai har man basai: the One lives in the mind of the One's humble servant. Think of a dark room when someone you love walks in. The room is the same, and still the fear is gone.

A Question to Sit With

Who is someone easy to overlook that deserves more honor than they get?
