All peace comes from singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
There is no peace in earning lots of money.
There is no peace in watching dances and shows.
There is no peace in ruling over many lands.
All peace comes from singing the praises of the One, Har, Har.
Peace is not in piling things up but in turning toward what matters.
Peace lives in singing the One's praises, and money, shows and power cannot hand it to you.
Wealth (dhan), dances and plays (nirat naatay), and winning lands (days kamaa-ay) each leave you still looking. Har gun gaa-ay: singing the One's praises is where sarab sukhaa, all peace, is found. Fun and work have their place; peace just does not live in piling things up.
A Question to Sit With
Where have you looked for happiness and not quite found it?
