when you find the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, by great good fortune. As Gurmukh, utter the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You will find peace, calm steadiness and joy.

By great good fortune, you find the Sangat, the company of holy people. Turned toward the Guru, say the Naam of the One, Har, Har.

Peace, steadiness, and joy tend to arrive together.
The deeper layer

Peace, calm and joy come in the Sangat, where you say the Naam.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the centre of the shabad. Sookh sahj aanand: peace, poise and bliss. Sahj is a natural, easy balance, like a boat that rights itself. Saadhsangat is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Gurmukh: one turned toward the Guru.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel peaceful, steady, and happy all at once?
