Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
This human body, so hard to come by, is accepted.
Chanting the Naam of the One, Har, Har, it has borne fruit.
Nanak says: the One has been kind to me. With every breath and every bite, I remember the One, Har, Har.
This rare human life bears fruit when it is filled with the Naam.
Dulabh dayh means a body that is hard to come by, a rare human life. It is parvaan, accepted and approved.
Safal ho-ee jap har har naam: it becomes fruitful by saying the Naam.
Think of a seed. It's precious already, but its real gift shows when it grows into a tree full of fruit.
Then Nanak says the One was kind to him. Saas giraas japa-o har haree: with every breath and every bite of food, I remember the One. Remembering isn't only for special times. It is woven into breathing and eating.
What is one ordinary moment today you could fill with a little more attention?
