You Are With Them All

As many beings and creatures as there are in the water, on the land and in the sky - wherever they are, You are with them all, O Lord.

gur parsaad raakh lay jan ka-o har ras naanak jhol pee-aa. ||5||7||8||
By Guru's Grace, please preserve Your humble servant; O Lord, Nanak stirs up this juice, and drinks it in. ||5||7||8||

In plain words

All the beings and creatures in the water, on the land and in the sky — wherever they are, You are with them all.

Nanak says: by the Guru's grace, please keep Your humble servant safe. Nanak stirs up the sweet taste of the One and drinks it in.

The One is with every living thing, everywhere — not one is left out.
The deeper layer

The One is with every living thing, everywhere.

"jaytay jee-a jant jal thal mahee-al" — all beings in water, on land and in the sky. "jatar katar too sarab jee-aa" — wherever they are, You are in them all. No creature is left out.

Then comes a prayer: "raakh lay jan ka-o" — please keep Your servant safe. By the Guru's grace, Nanak tastes har ras, the sweetness of the One. He stirs it and drinks it deeply. Think of stirring honey into warm milk and drinking every drop. The shabad began by questioning empty show. It ends with warm belonging for everyone.

A Question to Sit With

What would change if you remembered that every creature is held by the same One?
