In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

No one should be proud of the caste or family they were born into.

Whoever knows the One — that person is the Brahmin, the one of highest standing.

Where you're born doesn't make you higher or lower — knowing the One is open to everyone.
The deeper layer

Where you are born gives no one a reason for pride; knowing the One is what gives a person standing.

Jaat kaa garab na karee-ahu ko-ee: let no one be proud of caste, the social group a person is born into. Barahm binday so braahman ho-ee: whoever knows the One is the Brahmin. In Guru Amar Das's time, Brahmins were the priestly class, placed at the top by birth. Here standing comes from knowing the One, and that is open to every person.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever seen someone treated as better or worse just for how they were born? How did it feel?
