Verse 5 of 5

Pure, And Making All Things Pure

kaho naanak jaa kay pooran karmaa.
Says Nanak, one whose karma is perfect
so jan aa-i-aa parabh kee sarnaa.
- that humble being enters the Sanctuary of God.
aap pavit paavan sabh keenay.
He himself is pure, and he sanctifies all.
raam rasaa-in rasnaa cheenHay. ||4||35||48||
His tongue chants the Name of the Lord, the Source of Nectar. ||4||35||48||

In plain words

Nanak says: the one whose karma has fully ripened comes into the shelter of the One.

That person is pure, and makes everyone around them pure too. Their tongue tastes the Naam of the One, the source of sweet nectar.

A clean and settled heart quietly makes everything around it cleaner too.
The deeper layer

A life that has fully ripened comes into the One's shelter, and its goodness spreads to everyone near.

Jaa kay pooran karmaa — the one whose karma has ripened, like fruit ready on the tree. Such a person comes into the shelter of the One. Then aap pavit paavan sabh keenay — they become pure themselves, and they make everyone around them purer too. Think of one cheerful kid on a grumpy bus ride. Soon the whole bus is smiling.

Their tongue tastes the Naam as rasaa-in, a source of sweet nectar.

A Question to Sit With

How does one calm, kind person change the mood of a whole room?
