Sing It With Joy

ਨਿਰਬਿਘਨ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥
nirbighan bhagat bhaj har har naa-o.
Meditating, vibrating the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is unobstructed devotional worship.
ਰਸਕਿ ਰਸਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
rasak rasak har kay gun gaa-o. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord with loving affection and energy. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Repeat the Naam of the One, Har, Har. It is devotion that nothing can block.

Sing the goodness of the One with love and delight, again and again.

Some good things are meant to be done again and again, with joy.
The deeper layer

Sing the Naam with joy; nothing can block that kind of love.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Nirbighan bhagat: devotion with nothing in its way. Bhaj har har naa-o: repeat the Naam of the One. Rasak rasak har kay gun gaa-o: sing the One's goodness with relish. The doubled rasak sounds like a happy heart going back for more.

Think of a favorite song you sing in the shower. You never get tired of it, and it makes the whole morning brighter.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you love doing so much you'd happily do it over and over?
