ਚਾਰੇ ਵਰਨ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ॥
chaaray varan aakhai sabh ko-ee.
Everyone says that there are four castes, four social classes.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬਿੰਦ ਤੇ ਸਭ ਓਪਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੨॥
barahm bind tay sabh opat ho-ee. ||2||
They all emanate from the drop of God's Seed. ||2||

Everyone talks about the four castes, the four classes people are sorted into.
Yet all of them come from the same one drop, the seed of the One.
All the groups people sort each other into spring from one shared Source.
Every group people sort each other into comes from the same one Source.
Chaaray varan aakhai sabh ko-ee: everyone speaks of the four varan, the four classes of the old Indian social order — priests, rulers, traders and workers. Barahm bind tay sabh opat ho-ee: all of them come from the One's single seed. The sorting is human; the origin is shared, and so is the dignity of every person.
