Countless melodies, countless instruments, countless delights, moment after moment. Hearing the One's praise, countless mistakes and countless sicknesses are wiped away.
Nanak says: serving the endless, Divine One brings all the blessings of the six duties, of fasts and worship, of visits to holy rivers and journeys to holy places.
Serving the endless One gathers up every blessing that rituals and pilgrimages reach for.
Anik naad anik baaj — countless melodies, countless instruments, new delights every moment. Anik dokh anik rog miteh jas sunee — hearing the praise of the One wipes away countless mistakes and aches.
Then Nanak names many religious practices of his day. Khatah means six set duties. Barat means fasts, poojaa means worship, tatah means holy riverbanks, and jaatar means pilgrimage. Naanak sayv apaar dayv — serving the endless One brings the fruit of all of these together.
It is like one key that opens every door in the house. The verse does not put those practices down. It says that loving service gathers up everything they were reaching for.
What is one simple, loving thing that feels worth more than a long checklist?
