Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The True Guru planted the treasure of the Naam deep inside.
Power, riches and all of Maya, the pull of passing things, are false.
Still, greedy people keep clinging to them.
Without the One's Naam, people are punished in the One's court.
The Naam is the treasure that lasts, and power and riches pass away.
Satgur naam nidhaan drirh-aa-i-aa: the True Guru plants the treasure of the Naam firmly inside. Raaj maal jhoothee sabh maa-i-aa: power and property are jhooth, false, here today and gone tomorrow. Lobhee nar rahay laptaa-ay: greedy people cling to them anyway, like someone hugging a sandcastle as the tide comes in.
Har kay naam bin dargeh milai sajaa-ay: without the Naam, a person meets punishment in the One's court. Only what is true lasts there.
What is something valuable to you that no one could ever take away?
