In plain words

Prahlaad's father sent him to school to learn to read.

He took his writing tablet and went to the teacher.

He said, “I will not read anything except the Naam. Write the One's Name on my tablet.”

When love for something fills your heart, it quietly becomes the center of your learning.
The deeper layer

A boy named Prahlaad goes to school and asks to learn only the Naam.

pitaa parahlaad parhan pathaa-i-aa — Prahlaad's father sent him to school to learn to read. The boy took his paatee, his writing tablet, to the teacher, like any student with a notebook. But he asked the teacher to write gobind muraar, a Name of the One, on it. That was the lesson he wanted most.

In Gurbani, Prahlaad is the model of a child whose love for the One is simple, whole, and steady. His story comes from the older devotional stories of India, and Gurbani honors him.

A Question to Sit With

If you could put one thing at the very center of everything you learn, what would it be?
