In plain words

Prahlaad's mother said to her son, “Listen to me: read only what you are taught.”

He answered, “The Great Giver, my fearless Lord, is always with me. If I let go of the One, my family would be shamed.”

Courage is trusting what you know more than what you fear.
The deeper layer

The Fearless Giver is always with you, so you can stay steady when others worry.

Putar par-hilaad si-o kahi-aa maa-ay: Prahlaad's mother speaks to her son, and parvirat na parhahu rahee samjhaa-ay: she keeps urging him to study only what the school teaches. She is worried for him.

Nirbha-o daataa har jee-o mayrai naal: the fearless Giver is with me. Jay har chhoda-o ta-o kul laagai gaal: if I let go of the One, my family would carry the shame. For Prahlaad, turning from the One would be the one thing that dishonors the family.

A Question to Sit With

When has knowing something deep inside helped you stay brave even when others were worried?
