The Boy Who Would Not Bend

parahlaad sabh chaatrhay vigaaray.
"Prahlaad has corrupted all the other students.
hamaaraa kahi-aa na sunai aapnay kaaraj savaaray.
He does not listen to what I say, and he does his own thing.
sabh nagree meh bhagat darirhaa-ee.
He instigated devotional worship in the townspeople."
dusat sabhaa kaa kichh na vasaa-ee. ||4||
The gathering of the wicked people could not do anything against him. ||4||

In plain words

“Prahlaad has led all the other students astray. He does not listen to what I say, and he does things his own way. He has spread love for the One all through the town.”

The gathering of wicked people could do nothing against him.

What is true in your heart cannot be pressured out of you by any crowd.
The deeper layer

The grown-ups complain about Prahlaad, but they cannot stop him.

They say he is spoiling the other students. He will not listen to them, and he does things his own way. Then comes the part they fear most: sabh nagree meh bhagat darirhaa-ee — he has spread love for the One all through the town.

What they call spoiling is love spreading, like a laugh that moves around a classroom. And dusat sabhaa kaa kichh na vasaa-ee: the crowd that stood against him could do nothing. A true thing a person knows in their heart cannot be forced out of them by any crowd.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever held on to something you believed even when others tried to talk you out of it?
