In plain words

Because of his past karma, the demon-king ruled the kingdom.

He did not understand the One; the One had led him astray.

He started a quarrel with his son Prahlaad.

Blind as he was, he did not see that his death was coming near.

Pride can blind you to the very thing that would set you free.
The deeper layer

Power can make a person blind to the One, and to how short their time is.

Kirat sanjogee dait raaj chalaa-i-aa: because of past karma, the actions of earlier times, the demon-king held the throne. Har na boojhai tin aap bhulaa-i-aa: he did not understand the One, and he wandered off the path.

Putar parahlaad si-o vaad rachaa-i-aa: he picked a quarrel with his own son. Andhaa na boojhai kaal nayrai aa-i-aa: blinded by pride, he could not see that his end was near, like someone so busy shouting that they miss the storm rolling in.

A Question to Sit With

When has being sure you were right made it hard to see something important?
