Verse 4 of 9

You Guard What Is Precious

ਭਗਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਹਿ ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਏਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
bhagtaa kee paij rakheh too aapay ayh tayree vadi-aa-ee.
You Yourself save the honor of Your devotees; this is Your Glory, O Lord.
You cleanse them of the sins and the pains of countless incarnations; You love them without even an iota of duality. ||3||

In plain words

You Yourself keep safe the honor of the ones who love You. This is Your greatness.

You cut away the wrongs and pains of life after life, and You love them with a whole heart, not split even a tiny bit.

You are loved completely, by a love that never holds part of itself back.
The deeper layer

The One looks after those who love the One, and loves them completely.

Bhagtaa kee paij rakheh too aapay — You Yourself keep the honor of Your bhagtaa, the people who love You. Ayh tayree vadi-aa-ee — this is Your greatness. It is simply who You are.

Janam janam kay kilvikh dukh kaateh — You cut away the wrongs and aches of many lifetimes. Dubidhaa ratee na raa-ee — and in Your love there is not a speck of dubidhaa, of being split in two.

Picture a parent who loves a child with a whole heart, not half. Earlier songs named the split inside us as the sickness. Here the One's love is whole, and that wholeness heals the split.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to be cared for by someone who is completely on your side?
