Cool And Calm Inside

jis naam ridai tis kot ka-ee sainaa.
One who keeps the Naam in his heart, has many millions of armies on his side.
jis naam ridai tis sahj sukhainaa.
One who keeps the Naam in his heart, enjoys peace and poise.
jis naam ridai so seetal hoo-aa.
One who keeps the Naam in his heart becomes cool and calm.
naam binaa Dharig jeevan moo-aa. ||2||
Without the Naam, both life and death are cursed. ||2||

In plain words

The one who keeps the Naam in their heart has millions of armies on their side.

The one who keeps the Naam in their heart rests in easy, natural peace.

The one who keeps the Naam in their heart grows cool and calm.

Without the Naam, both living and dying lose their worth.

Calm settles on its own over a heart that feels held.
The deeper layer

The Naam makes a person safe, peaceful, and cool inside.

Jis naam ridai tis kot ka-ee sainaa — the one with the Naam in the heart has millions of armies on their side. Tis sahj sukhainaa — they rest in sahaj. Sahaj means an easy, natural calm that doesn't have to be forced. It is the calm of someone who has stopped fighting with themselves.

So seetal hoo-aa — they become seetal, cool and calm. Think of stepping into the shade of a big tree on a hot day. Naam binaa dharig jeevan moo-aa — without the Naam, both living and dying lose their worth.

A Question to Sit With

What is something that helps you feel cool and calm when everything around you is hot and hurried?
