Verse 8 of 9

The Darkness Simply Lifts

jis naam ridai tis pargat pahaaraa.
One who keeps the Naam in his heart sees the Lord manifested in His Creation.
jis naam ridai tis miti-aa anDhaaraa.
One who keeps the Naam in his heart - his darkness is dispelled.
jis naam ridai so purakh parvaan.
One who keeps the Naam in his heart is approved and accepted.
naam binaa fir aavan jaan. ||7||
Without the Naam, the mortal continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||7||

In plain words

The one who keeps the Naam in their heart sees the One shining out through the whole world.

The one who keeps the Naam in their heart has their darkness wiped away.

The one who keeps the Naam in their heart is welcomed and accepted.

Without the Naam, the coming and going goes on and on.

The light was always there; keeping the Naam in your heart is how your eyes open to it.
The deeper layer

The Naam is like sunrise. It shows you what was there all along.

Jis naam ridai tis pargat pahaaraa — the one with the Naam in the heart sees the One shining through the whole world. Tis miti-aa andhaaraa — their darkness is wiped away. So purakh parvaan — they are welcomed and accepted.

Think of waking up in a dark room. When the sun comes up, nothing new is added. The chair and the bed were there the whole time. The light just lets you see them. Grace works like that. The eyes simply open.

Naam binaa fir aavan jaan — without the Naam, the coming and going goes on.

A Question to Sit With

When has something familiar suddenly looked beautiful once you stopped and noticed it?
