In plain words

The Naam comes to the one the One is kind to.

In the Sangat, the Lord of the World is known.

The coming and going ends, and peace is found.

Nanak says: my essence has merged into the great Essence of the One.

You are a drop that never stopped being ocean; the Naam is how you remember.
The deeper layer

The Naam is a gift, and it brings you home.

Tin naam paa-i-aa jis bha-i-o kirpaal — the Naam comes to the one the One is kind to. Saadhsangat meh lakhay gopaal — in the Sangat, people gathered together to remember the One, the One is seen. Gopaal is a name for the One who cares for the whole world.

Aavan jaan rahay sukh paa-i-aa — the coming and going stops, and peace is found. Kaho Naanak tatai tat milaa-i-aa — Nanak says my tat, my essence, has joined the great Essence.

Picture a raindrop falling into the sea. It doesn't vanish. It comes home to the water it was always made of.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you feel part of something much larger than yourself?
