Verse 8 of 9

Seekers Everywhere Reaching For One

ਕੋਟਿ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਕਥਹਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
kot gi-aanee katheh gi-aan.
Millions of spiritual teachers teach His spiritual wisdom.
ਕੋਟਿ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਧਰਤ ਧਿਆਨੁ ॥
kot Dhi-aanee Dharat Dhi-aan.
Millions of meditators focus on His meditation.
ਕੋਟਿ ਤਪੀਸਰ ਤਪ ਹੀ ਕਰਤੇ ॥
kot tapeesar tap hee kartay.
Millions of austere penitents practice austerities.
ਕੋਟਿ ਮੁਨੀਸਰ ਮੋੁਨਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਹਤੇ ॥੭॥
kot muneesar mon meh rahtay. ||7||
Millions of silent sages dwell in silence. ||7||

In plain words

Millions of wise teachers teach the One's wisdom.

Millions of meditators fix their minds on the One.

Millions of seekers keep up hard disciplines.

Millions of sages live in silence.

All over the world, in every kind of practice, people are reaching toward the same One.
The deeper layer

All around the world, people reach for the same One in different ways.

Millions of gi-aanee, wise teachers, speak about wisdom. Millions sit in meditation. Millions practice tap, hard discipline. Millions of muneesar, silent sages, live in quiet.

Think of kids in a class learning the same song. Some read the notes. Some hum. Some just listen hard. Each one is reaching for the same music. The verse shows every way of seeking — teaching, meditation, discipline, silence — all turned toward the One. It is a picture of all people searching together.

A Question to Sit With

What are some very different ways you have seen people try to reach for something greater?
