Verse 4 of 9

Effortlessly, Enemies Become Friends

achint hamaarai kaaraj pooray.
Spontaneously, my works are perfectly accomplished.
achint hamaarai lathay visooray.
Spontaneously, I am rid of sorrow.
achint hamaarai bairee meetaa.
Spontaneously, my enemies have become friends.
achinto hee ih man vas keetaa. ||3||
Spontaneously, I have brought my mind under control. ||3||

In plain words

All on its own, my work is done and whole.

All on its own, my sorrows have lifted away.

All on its own, my enemies have become friends.

All on its own, this mind of mine has come to rest.

A calm heart turns enemies into friends without even trying.
The deeper layer

When the root is right, even the restless mind settles.

"kaaraj pooray" — my tasks are complete. "lathay visooray" — my sorrows are set down. "bairee meetaa" — enemies become friends. "man vas keetaa" — the mind comes to rest.

All of it happens achinto hee, all on its own. The mind settles by itself once the root is in the right place. Think of muddy water in a jar. Stop shaking it, and the mud sinks, and the water turns clear.

A Question to Sit With

Has someone you once saw as a rival ever become a friend? How did it happen?
